Empowering potential through embracing our strengths.
Founded by Catalina Echavarría — the philosophy that transformed our volunteer program.
Catalina Echavarría, a Paisa visionary, saw that every volunteer — like a dandelion seed — carries specific strengths that take root wherever they land. A teacher seeds language. A developer seeds infrastructure. A gardener seeds community spaces. No skill is too small; every contribution compounds.
Her insight transformed Primed’s volunteer program from ad hoc placements into a structured 9-pathway system — matching each person’s expertise to a genuine community need. The result: deeper impact, longer retention, and volunteers who feel their skills truly matter.
The Dandelion Principle operates on three beliefs:
Community in Action
A dandelion doesn’t choose where the wind carries it — but it always blooms. Catalina saw volunteers the same way: each one arrives with something the community needs. We just help them find where to land. Nine pathways, one living network.
Not sure where you fit? Three questions to discover your ideal pathway.
The Process
Five steps that connect your skills to community need — a cycle where every volunteer’s impact feeds the next opportunity.
What you bring meets what the community needs — the match is the magic.
2025 Volunteer Impact
Volunteer economic value calculated using the Replacement Cost Method (Mook et al., 2007). Base rate of $50,000 COP/hr is conservative relative to Medellín professional English instruction rates. 2.75× multiplier reflects curriculum creation, publicity, grant support, and infrastructure contributions (Nicholls et al., 2012).
